Hearts and Actions - Hadith of the Week

إِنَّ اللهَ لَا يَنْظُرُ إِلَى صُوَرِكُمْ وَأَمْوَالِكُمْ، وَلَكِنْ يَنْظُرُ إِلَى قُلُوبِكُمْ وَأَعْمَالِكُمْ 

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying:

“Indeed, Allah does not look at your appearances or your wealth. However, He looks at your hearts and your deeds.”

Overview:

• We previously shared the dua : اللَّهُمَّ كَمَا حَسَّنْتَ خَلْقِي فَحَسِّنْ خُلُقِي and spoke about focusing on our inward state and our character which this hadith speaks directly to.

• Our hearts and deeds are what we will be judged by, which speaks to the two conditions necessary for acceptance of anything in court of Allah:

  • Hearts: What is our motivation behind what we’re doing?

  • Deeds: What do we do with what we are blessed with? Are our methods of executing deeds consistent and correctly aligned with the actions of the Prophet (ﷺ)?
